Habakkuk 2:2-3:

And the Lord answered me:  "Write the vision; make it plain upon tablets, so he may run who reads it,

For still the vision awaits its time; it hastens to the end - it will not lie.  If it seem slow, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.

As a child I  dreamed of becoming an actress, a singer and a super model like the talented and gifted Iman.  As I grew older, I thought perhaps I would enjoy pediatrics or maybe teaching like my wonderful mother.  I didn't know much about writing as a career or even how to pursue it in college!  Though I loved to read, becoming a professional writer never crossed my mind.  I made up stories all the time as a child playing with my paper dolls, riding on the bus or train and in school during free time.  I would even change or continue the ending of books that I read.  I wrote all of the time, too.  I'd write passages from a book or the lyrics of a song, just for fun.

It was not until my junior year in college that I actually sat down and wrote some of my stories on paper.  Soon, I had a collection of short stories and friends would ask me to help them write letters and essays.  When I graduated from college as a teacher, I quickly incorporated writing into everything - math, science and even health.  Initially, I did this as a way to strengthen my students writing skills, but I quickly discovered that not only were their skills improving, but writing actually helped them grasp key concepts in other content areas.  Next on the list was a school newsletter and yearbook.  Eventually, I wrote plays and conducted workshops to help parents understand the importance of literacy.

Then, in 2001 I took a leap of faith! After five years of teaching I left the classroom to pursue a career in educational publishing.  This career move allowed me to write more often for personal reasons.  I even published a few articles!  I learned a lot about publishing from a very good friend and writer.  As I watched her market and promote her books, I became inspired to do the same.  And in 2006, I ran into an editor from Urban Christian who helped make my dream come true.  It's been an interesting journey and I'm enjoying every minute.  Book number two is on the way!!!
